Medical Disclaimer

Please read this before acting on anything you find on this site.

General information only

Everything published on Ank Health is general health information intended for education. It is not medical advice and not a substitute for consultation, diagnosis or treatment by a qualified healthcare professional.

Our articles describe how conditions generally behave and what treatments generally involve. They cannot account for your age, medical history, other conditions, the medicines you take, your test results or your examination findings. Those things change the answer, often substantially.

No doctor-patient relationship

Reading this website, or contacting us, does not create a doctor-patient relationship. We cannot and do not provide personal medical advice, diagnoses, prescriptions or treatment recommendations to individuals.

Always consult a professional

Before starting, stopping or changing any treatment, medication, supplement, diet or exercise programme, speak to a qualified healthcare professional who knows your situation.

Never disregard professional medical advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you read here.

Emergencies

If you think you are experiencing a medical emergency, contact your local emergency number or go to the nearest emergency department immediately.

Do not wait, do not research further, and do not email us. Time matters in heart attack, stroke, severe allergic reaction, serious bleeding and breathing difficulty.

First aid content

Our first aid articles describe generally recommended actions. They are not a substitute for hands-on certified first aid or resuscitation training, which we encourage. In any emergency, call for professional help first.

Medication and dosing

Where our articles mention medicines, they do so to explain how a treatment works and what to expect. Any doses mentioned are general illustrations and must not be used to treat yourself or anyone else.

Dosing depends on weight, age, kidney and liver function, other medicines and other conditions. Only a prescriber who knows you can determine what is appropriate. Never take someone else’s prescription medication.

Screening and test results

Our articles about screening and laboratory tests explain what tests generally measure and what results generally mean. They cannot interpret your result, which depends on your personal risk, your history and the laboratory’s own reference ranges. Discuss every result with the clinician who ordered it.

Pregnancy and children

Information on this site is not tailored to pregnancy or breastfeeding. Many medicines and procedures that are safe otherwise are not safe in pregnancy.

Content relating to children is general guidance for parents and carers. Children are not small adults; their doses, symptoms and risks differ. Any fever in a baby under three months requires immediate medical assessment.

Mental health

Our mental health content is educational. It is not therapy and not a crisis service. If you are in crisis, or having thoughts of harming yourself, please contact a crisis helpline in your country, a doctor, or someone you trust, today.

Accuracy and currency

We make genuine efforts to be accurate and to reflect current evidence. Medicine changes, guidelines are revised, and errors happen. We make no warranty that all content is complete, current or error-free at the time you read it.

If you find something wrong, please tell us through our contact page.
